This purchase is my third pair...

I do a lot of outdoor cooking, both grilling and dutch ovens, and I try to keep two pair. I gave away a pair to a friend after I introduced him to the necessity of owning tongs. This is a replacement pair. These particular tongs seem to be more substantial construction than others I have owned and if I should need another pair or give a pair as a gift these would be my first choice.
Real thing

These are the real thing, tongs made the way they used to make them. Nice and strong, not flimsy like the grocery and discount store version you see nowadays.
A must for Dutch Oven outdoor cooking

These tongs were a must for dutch oven cooking. Moving coals around is essential, and getting them out of a coal starter is impossible without one (unless you want to dump all of the coals at one time). It makes cooking so much easier and enjoyable.
The Best Tongs......A Must Take Along For Camping

Anyone who has ever done any cooking at all over an open campfire knows the value of a good solid, and LONG set of tongs. Campfires produce a flame that is no where near as neat and controlled as what you encounter with your backyard grill. Thus we are well advised to improvise using our pioneer spirit whenever we decide to brave the savage elements for dinner. Amazon sells a lot of these camp style tongs at around the same price. Most are long enough at 16 or 18 inches, and by far most are made of stainless steel. Let me tell you first off that nothing less than stainless steel should be considered for true campfire cooking on a regular basis. Cheap tongs included in barbecue sets will not hold up under the constant exposure to open fire, nor last for any length of time without rusting over the long periods they will sit stuffed away with your other gear during the off season. Lodge Camp tongs are not only a full 16" in length but are made of a top quality stainless steel as well. I have owned a pair for over 8 years now and they still can be scrubbed down to look like new any time. Though I will admit that I don't know all that much about stainless per say, I have to admit that the Lodge Camps have taught me that it is not all created equally. My tongs are still turning hot dogs and burgers over and open fire now long past others that have managed to twist and discolor, despite their being stainless steel as well. If you're looking for good stainless tongs at a very reasonable price that will last you a decade or more, I highly recommend you look no further than the Lodge Camps here on Amazon. They don't come any better in outdoor cookware in my opinion...
Sturdy tongs for cooking

Tongs are sturdy and fine for cooking at the campsite. Would be better to have a wood handle grip, as the metal tends to heat up when cooking over the fire. However the tongs are long and keep your hands at a decent distance from hot coals.
Nice set of Tongs

These are stainless steel with a positie lock "ring" that I found is simple, but works more reliably than some of the newer "pull the back tab" variety. Good value.
