The heat is on as the TLC BBQ Pitmasters compete at the Decatur Riverfest Cook Off where BBQ Nerd, Tuffy Stone, uses PC spreadsheets in an attempt to win amongst the other 6 competing BBQ Pitmasters for the $3,000 top prize.
Paul Petersen of the Pablo Diablo team from McKinney, Texas, does his best to avoid placing last in the Decatur cook-off while Lee Ann Whippen experiences more frayed nerves as a power outage threatens her chance of winning. The heat is on!
In the video below, Tuffy Stone gets called out as a "BBQ nerd" because he believes that spreadsheets make his BBQ taste better!
During the Decatur cook-off, Myron Mixon became somewhat upset at Paul Petersen's method of using muffin tins to produce his meat, which Myron believed to be his own idea.
Lee Ann Whippen also suffered another traumatic outing at the event, where her rotisserie grill failed to pump the meat juices around properly leaving her with worries of a poor entry. As luck would have it, her brisket tasted better than expected leaving Lee Ann with a respectable placement of 6th in the category.
Despite Tuffy Stone's highly methodical approach to cooking barbecue, possibly caused by his roots in French cuisine, he decided to go with cooking an untried recipe for his brisket with potentially disasterous results.
Convinced that his pork was the best-tasting at Decatur, Johnny Trigg's pork earned him a lacklustre 19th place.
Surprisingly, all of the 7 BBQ Pitmasters failed to make the top five in the Decatur Riverfest Cook Off. The colorful Myron Mixon (who recently lost his $10,000 prize money at Murphysboro), managed the best out of the Pitmasters by placing 6th overall.
Johnny Trigg also did well, by taking 1st place in ribs and Tuffy Stone making a respectable 3rd place even though he used an untested brisket recipe much to everyone's surprise.
Sadly for Paul Petersen's team, Pablo Diablo, left the event with last place to his name yet again, and as yet, his highest placement was a dissapointing 31st place in the pork category. Now, Paul Petersen is having second thoughts about competing any further.
The high's and lows continue as the competition from the 7 contestants which include; Myron Mixon, Tuffy Stone, Lee Ann Whippen, Paul Petersen, Jamie Geer, Harry Soo and Johnny Trigg continues to rage on.
This is the last episode of the year but TLC's BBQ Pitmasters returns in the New Year on 1/7/10 but there is a re-run of episode 2 Smokin' In Mesquite on Christmas Eve.
