Episode 4 of TLC's BBQ Pitmasters saw the American Royal Invitational held in Kansas City, Missouri which has been referred to as the “Swine Superbowl†by some.
In order to qualify for the event, a competitor must have been awarded Grand Champion at least once in the year before. The prize money at stake at the American Royal Invitational is a sizeable $10,000 which was fought for by over 120 competitors.
Because the American Royal is an invitational event, Paul Peterson did opt not to enter this event. Despite this, Peterson chose to learn from the venerable Johhny Trigg and compete with his team, "Smokin’ Triggers" for this stage.
This turned out to be a smart move, and as you will see, they made a good pairing while making it quite clear that Petersen was taking this opportunity to learn from a BBQ master with decades of experience during the competition.
The recently rebuked Myron Mixon of "competing-in-two-events-at-the-same-time" fame, took part in verbal "debates" with Bob Gibson and Chris Lilly, during which Lilly showed he was more than capable of going toe-to-toe with Myron and his undeniably large ego and cooking ability.
