Kansas Winter Q – Cold Weather and Barbecue at Great Bend

2010 marks another year for the Kansas Winter Q, with it's 3rd annual event starting in a few shorts days on Friday the 12th of February.

The two-day event is a story of fire and ice as the Barton County Fair Board and its Barbecue Committee invites cookers from across the nation to brave the harsh central Kansas winter for an exciting two-day event at Great Bend, KS.

Due to the cookoff's remarkable popularity in it's first year in 2008, contestants,judges, table captains and other volunteers were cramped into Expo I building, competing for the event prizes.

In 2009, the event exceeded capacity expectations and spilled over into the adjacent Kansas Army National Guard Armory, where for a fee that benefited the BCFA, the participants used barbecued meat to sample and vote for sauces made by the competitors.

Last year, Romine mentioned that there will be an "auctioning of the cooks" during which the public can bid on baskets of barbecue prepared by the cookers and that the winning bidders would be able to pick up their prizes the day after the contest.
