Product Description |
| This digital device lets you monitor the internal temperature of a roast and time the potatoes simultaneously. The sharp stainless-steel probe (which comes with a silicone cover for safe handling) may be inserted into the meat and the oven door closed over the four-foot cord, which plugs into the thermometer. Set the desired 'done' temperature, and the beeper will sound when the target is reached. Or, detach the cord and probe and simply use the device as a timer, handy to carry in your pocket or clip to a belt when in other parts of the house where the oven's own timer alarm can't be heard. Both functions operate independently. Taylor, well-known for its precision household and industrial kitchen thermometers, packs the model 1471 with all kinds of features. The thermometer/timer counts down from 99 minutes 59 seconds, features a backlit LCD for night-time use, automatically records maximum and minimum temperatures, and works within a wide range: -32 to 212 degrees F (0 to 100 degrees C). In addition to the clip, a stand and magnet allow varied positioning. Two AA batteries are required (not included), and an on/off button saves power. The compact device makes a great gift for the home chef. --Ann Bieri |

Works great - A must for every cook

Works great for nearly fool-proof dinners!
My only complaint is on the timer...if you accidentially go past the original time you want, you have to forward all the way around again. Other than that - perfect!! |
great buy for the $$

| I love my Taylor digital thermometer. I've used it 12-15 times with no problems. An internal thermometer is a must for any smoker owner and this one seems to be the best option for the price. I've purchased this same thermometer as a gift for friends and family with a smoker and they too love it. |
Taylor 1471 is OK but lacks features of competitors

| I had a Taylor 1474 digital thermometer and timer with a remote pager. I LOVED it. Taylor no longer sells the 1474 and I received a Taylor 1471 as a warranty replacement when one of my 1474 failed to set temperatures. The 1474 allows temperatures to be set in 1 degree increments beginning at 120 degrees. The 1471 allows temperatures to be set in 5 degree increments beginning at 135 degrees. This gives you medium to well done beef. The 1471 timer function is not user friendly. I've very disappointed with the 1471. |

I did not even open this, am returning it. I bought it to monitor foods in ovens as they cook. I could see that the probe wire is 3/32" thick and will clearly not allow the turbo oven lid to seat, or the small oven door to close. Package says don't allow door to crimp wire. How can it be avoided??
So this model is unusable to me.

| This is the second one I have owned. The first one lasted about a year. When it died I got this one to replace it. Same model as before and it didn't even last a month. Love the idea but this product just won't do the job. |
Worked for 1 hour

Summary: The metal tip malfunctioned in the heat of a BBQ. Don't buy this.
I bought this device at Tuesday Morning, not Amazon - same model number and looks identical. It is conceivable that it's not exactly the same as what is sold on Amazon - but probably is. With that disclaimer out of the way I was excited to use this for cooking a Rib Roast on my weber BBQ. After setting it all up it worked fine for about 1 hour, temperature reading slowly going up like it should up to about 100F. Then suddenly the temp spiked to 225F. Fortunately, that was not the real temperature of my beef but I had found the true temperature was closer to 130F when this occured.
I found the metal tip of the thermometer had some red liquid oozing out near the flexible wire. Obviously, something in the metal tip couldn't take the 350F degree weber. After this happened the temperature reading was always about 100 degrees off. The package says you can leave this in what you are cooking - obviously not! |
