2009-annual-farm-bbq-naples-florida
The first Collier County Farm City BBQ began more than 30 years ago with a similar story. Following a bad crop season in Immokalee, the people of Naples invited the farmers to a barbeque. The following year, the farmers of Immokalee reciprocated the hospitality.

The event still rotates from Naples to Immokalee annually. The 2009 Farm City BBQ will be held on Wednesday, November 25, at Ave Maria.

The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce initiated the Farm City BBQ to help facilitate relationships with the county’s urban and rural residents, attracting 1,000 attendees.

The regulars know to show up in jeans and boots, but you still see a few in suits and skirts.

It is recommended that when you go:

* Wear jeans and boots. You want to look like a regular.

* Buy your vegetable bag early. It's a great deal and they always sell out.

* Come early for the networking.

* Come hungry. You can't beat the fresh vegetables and steak hot off the grill.

* Buy a raffle ticket. Leadership Collier is sure to have some valuable prizes.

* Bring a friend. You are supporting a good cause!

“We have a long relationship with the local farmers and we are honored to host the 2009 Farm City BBQ. As Ave Maria expands, we look forward to growing with our neighbors in Immokalee,” said Blake Gable.

If you want your tickets in advance, make sure you visit the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce office located at 2390 Tamiami Trail N. Ste 210 Naples, 34103 with proof of online purchase.

To book your tickets, head here, and note that tickets will not be mailed.

2010 North Star Blues & BBQ Festival Cancelled
The DeForest Area Chamber of Commerce's board of directors has pulled the plug on this years North Star Blues & BBQ event just two years after it's first appearance.

It appears as though lack of finances for the event are to blame, and executive director Lisa Beck said "The level of sponsorship required to support the festival was deemed too burdensome for area businesses and community sponsors, and continuing the festival poses too great a risk of financial loss."

In September, the board had decided to hold the festival for at least one more year, with some alterations as to how the event was to be organised.

Despite the boards efforts at trying to raise revenue from the BBQ competition, the event was not to be.

Beck said the chamber took in $25,000 less in sponsorships in 2009. In 2008, the chamber got $47,000. In 2009, the sum decreased to $22,000. Lisa Beck said that the board wants to see sponsorships increased by at least $5,000 to $8,000 for next year.

Why blame the weather for putting off a BBQ?

The London Bikers don't, that's for sure!

With the British Summer not turning out well as we have all heard repeatedly in weather reports over the last few weeks, it did not dampen the London Bikers high spirits at their Annual Summer BBQ event.

The London Bikers held their BBQ at the Two Brewers pub, in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, which kicked off at 4pm on Sunday where dozens of bikers from the London area and further afield, gathered in a large social event to enjoy some great BBQ.

Many prizes had been donated by the members to raise money for their charity, London Air Ambulance, which tallied up to over £200.

One of the spectacles at the London Bikers BBQ, was a BSB Superstock Bike that is currently being used for this seasons BSB racing which has been raced at the Isle of Man TT.

Apparently, the event went down well with everyone and it goes to show that whatever the weather may have in store, you can always enjoy a BBQ if the food is good. Judging by the pictures of the BBQ in their gallery, it did look good!

Perhaps for the more enthusiastic BBQ'ers among the London Bikers, they might consider taking their own cooking arrangements with them next time?

Congrats to the London Bikers for pulling off a successful Summer BBQ and raising money for a great charity.

Keen homestyle BBQ grillers have an exciting chance to display their barbecue skills, as well as having the chance to win several cool barbecue-related prizes, including legendary Traeger wood pellet grills, as well as a trip to Salem during the BBQ competition at the Umatilla County Fair.

Last year Umatilla County smoked the competition with Bryan Miller and Andrea Kelly winning the chicken grilling contest at the Oregon State Fair. Dubbed Bryan and the friend with the barbecue, the Milton-Freewater duo will return to defend their crown.

The Foster Farms Big Cluck Grill-off is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Painted Hills Natural Beef Backyard Grilling Contest will follow on Thursday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"You don't have to have competed before and you don't have to be any sort of master griller," said Delia Wallis, fairgrounds office assistant.

Wallis said there's still time for potential contestants to prepare themselves before firing up their barbecues for competition.

"Now's the time to practice on your family and friends," she said. "We've had past competitors have barbecues and have their family and friends taste test."

Although there's no fee to enter, there are a limited number of slots open for each of the grilling competitions, so people interested in showcasing their backyard culinary skills need to register through the fairgrounds office.

It's great to see small open competitions like this with free entry made available to keen amateur BBQ'ers wanting to get their feet wet in friendly competition. This opportunity it too good to miss, and remember there is a limited number of open free spaces, so apply quickly and get your name down.
