Homemade Barbeque Sauce

Learn how to make your own homemade barbeque sauce

Making your own homemade barbeque sauce is straightforward once you have the right tools and ingredients to hand. You will be using regular kitchen store ingredients to make this delicious homemade barbeque sauce, and you can adjust the ingredients and quantities to best suit your palette.

This BBQ sauce tastes great on BBQ ribs, pork, beef, lamb and chicken. You can use it on just about anything with great results.

To start making your homemade barbeque sauce, you will need the following ingredients.

3 roughly chopped white onions
4 tbls ketchup
300ml concentrated lemon juice
120ml vinegar
140ml Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tbsp mustard powder
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tbls of butter
1/2 tbls extra virgin olive oil

To prepare your homemade barbeque sauce

Take a frying pan and sauté the onions in a knob of butter and a small amount of olive oil until softened and translucent in colour.

Remove the softened onions from the pan and place in large saucepan. Add remaining ingredients and reduce the heat to a low simmer for about 60 minutes or so making sure that you stir the homemade barbeque sauce regularly. Keep an eye on the barbeque sauce so that it does not stick to the bottom of your pan.

You will find this homemade barbeque sauce is a great tasting coating to add to lamb, chicken, beef or pork. This sauce will marry well with almost any meat you care to barbeque.

For a delicious pork barbeque, just roast a pork shoulder roast in your oven at around 325°F degrees, allowing roughly 20 minutes for every pound in weight of meat.

Allow around 30 minutes for the pork to cool down properly, and now pull the pork meat from the bone and fat and then cut it into cubed pieces to your liking.

Place the meat into your homemade barbeque sauce, and simmer it very gently on a low heat for another 50-60 minutes, ensuring that the meat is well coated in the homemade barbeque sauce so it will take on the additional flavors and moisture.
