Oriental pork ribs

Warm Beet and Onion Salad

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons dry sherry

  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder

  • 1 clove garlic

  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  • 3 pounds meaty pork spareribs or loin back ribs

Method

  • For marinade, combine soy sauce, sherry, hoisin sauce, vegetable oil, five-spice powder, garlic, and pepper. Place ribs in plastic bag set into a shallow dish. Pour marinade over ribs; close bag. Marinate in the refrigerator 4 hours or overnight, turning bag occasionally to distribute marinade.

  • Remove ribs from marinade, reserving marinade. Place ribs in centre of cooking grate. Grill 1 to 1-1/2 hours or until tender, brushing with reserved marinade during the last 20 minutes of grilling time. To serve, cut ribs into 2- or 3-rib portions.
